Arjuna Vishaada Yogah:
"Arjuna's Despondency Stage"
nihatya dhaartaraashtraannah kaa preetih syaajjanaardana
paapamevaashrayed asmaan hatwaitaan aatataayinah // 1.36 //
paapamevaashrayed asmaan hatwaitaan aatataayinah // 1.36 //
Translation:
By killing these son of Dhritarashtra, what is the pleasure we will get O, Janaardana(Krishna)!!! By killing these criminal felons, we will just commit sin.
Description:
Here the word 'aatataayi' refers to a criminal or a felon who is nobody other than Duryodhana, the elder son of Dhitarashtra. He had committed all such nasty, brutal behaviours towards the Paandavaas like; set fire to their house, run to kill with a sword in hand, applied poison to kill, usurps the wife of Paandavaas, booty the wealth and land etc. etc. But, Arjuna overwhelmed with a sense of sympathy for his cousins and all the other near and dear ones who are arrayed in the battle field. He considered it as committing a sin by killing his own people by his own hand in this battle as Hindu "Dharma Sastra" teaches that it is a great sin by killing somebody without any reason. But Arjuna forgot that, as per Hindu "Artha Sastra" no sin is committed by killing such a felon.
nihatya: by killing ; kaa: what ; preetih: pleasure ; Janaardana: another name for Lord Krishna ; papam: sin ; aashrayed: come upon ; aatataayinah: felons
