Bhagavad Gita - Chapter 1(Part-19)
Arjuna Vishaada Yogah:
"Arjuna's Despondency Stage"

sa ghosho dhaartaraashtraanaam hridayaani vyadaarayat
nabhashcha prithiveem chaiva tumulo avyanunaadayan // 1.19 //

Translation:
The tumultuous vibrating sound of the conchshells, shattered the hearts of the members of the Dhritarashtra's side by making both the sky and earth resound.

Description:
First of all Bhishma evaluated the unstable mind of Duryodhana and to cheer him up it the battlefield he blew his conchshell as if a roar of a lion. Another way, it was the signal of commencement of war from the Kouravaas' side. Followed by Bhishma, all the conches and various instruments were blown by the Kouravaas army. But in a contrast, the Paandavaas also accept the commencement of by the Kouravaas by blowing their separate and respective conches. The vibrating and uproaring sound produced by the Paandavaas army was so tumultuous that it resound both sky and the earth and shattered the hearts of the members of the Dhritarashtra who are noone other than the brothers of Kouravaas.
